Promotion of Activities
to Build Public Acceptance (PA) of Biotechnology in Japan
1. Background and objectives
Biotechnology in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and food industry has reached at the practical stages. General public, however, are not familiar with recombinant DNA(rDNA) technology, and some seem to feel uncomfortable with biotechnology.
In order to promote agricultural biotechnology, it is important to give precise information about biotechnology, especially rDNA technology, to general public so that they can comfortably accept biotechnology and the products.
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries(MAFF) promotes activities to build perception of
general public about rDNA technology and the safety of the products.
